Steins, a New Mexico ghost town, was once home to about 1000 residents. Billboards along I-10 advertise tours, but none have been available since the property's owner, Larry Link, was murdered in 2011.

The Big Ditch formerly known as Main Street
Silver City's streets were platted in a grid pattern in 1871 without sufficient regard for the seasonal rainwater runoff. Rains in the summer of 1895 sent a river flowing down Main Street; destroying much of the town's busy business center. In 1902, flood waters turned what remained of Main Street into a big ditch -- parts of which are 60 feet deep.
Main Street is no more. The ditch is now a city park.
